The Circa 1916 Photo of the Troyan Family
When I found this photo at my mother's house I became excited. I became aware I was looking at my great-grandparents and catching a glimpse of my grandfather as a teenager. Gary Troyan confirmed that the baby on the lap of my great-grandmother, Helen, is my great-uncle Pete.
Top Row Left to Right: My Grandfather, Stephen Troyan born August 6, 1899 - crushed to death by a piece of slate in a mining accident at the Banner Mine in Byesville, Ohio on August 24, 1924. Stephen Troyan married Marie Slifko and they had two children, George Albert Troyan and Alice Marie Troyan Eterovich. The girl in this row is Anna Troyan Sovich born on May 13, 1904 died on July 7, 1990 married Peter (Pete) Sovich and mother of Jerry Sovich and Ruth Sovich Wilgozy. George (Sharky) Troyan born on May 6, 1901, married to Pearl E. Sharky died on October 5, 1993.
Bottom Row Left to Right: Joseph Troyan (Bashful Harmonica Joe) born March 25, 1912 died on June 21, 2000 married to Harriet. Holding Joe is my Great Grandfather, George Troyan, 1878-1922, who died from emphysema contracted from mining. John Troyan born on ___1907 and married Winifred. John died on ___1973 and was the father of Kathy and Dickey. Dickey then was the nephew who helped clean out Aunt Harriet's house. Next to John Troyan is Mike (Mitch) Troyan born on ____ and married Jean. Mike died on ____ he was the father of Danny and Roger. Seated next to Mike is my Great-Grandmother, Helen Thila? Troyan born in 1878 and died April 29, 1962. I met her, though I don't remember, because she passed after my first birthday. On her lap is Pete Troyan born on ____ and died on _____.
This photo was mailed to Joe in 1999 from someone named Agnes Veselenak of Dearborn heights, MI: Markings on the envelope were made by Harriet? and me.
